Does the electronics reduce the passive noise protection if the battery dies?
No — the passive ABS shell and foam cushion still provide the rated SNR/NRR attenuation with the power off; the electronics add sound amplification/cutoff and Bluetooth on top of that baseline passive rating.
What's the difference between the sound-amplification models and the Bluetooth models?
Sound-amplification models (e.g. EM-9011C/9011M, EM-9003) boost ambient sound and automatically cut it off above a safety threshold (typically ~82dB) so you can hear range commands or conversation.
